A Decade Like No Other, Vol. III: The Birth of a New World, 1917-1920: A Monthly Narrative of the News of the World in the Second Decade of Twentieth Century [Cross]
This is the third and last volume of an illustrated history of the world from September 1911 to March 1920, before, during and after the First World War. Rather than telling a single story, it follows the news of the world, month by month, much as it was experienced by those who lived through it. In doing so, it reminds us that the battles raging in Europe and elsewhere, significant as they were in the overall arc of world history, were competing for attention every day with other newsworthy events, including political contests and revolutions throughout the world, advances in exploration and technology, a growing awareness of issues of racial and gender equality, and old and new forms of entertainment on athletic fields, on Broadway stages, and in the new medium of film.
